This project is named after the fear of dreaming. Oneirophobia is a 2-man passion project heavily inspired by horror classics on the PS1 console. The player will continuing to have nightmares each night that are based on popular horror tropes. Blending the lines between what’s real and what isn’t, they must solve the mystery of what’s happening to them. The entire vibe from the visuals to the audio and UI will be inspired by the PS1 as well.

I made this apartment scene to test out a version of a nightmare. This shows off some of the visuals, atmosphere, and basic interactions I’ve set up. Later, I showcase the apartment while the player is awake. This shows some contrast between dreaming and being awake. I made the music for both scenes.

In this video, I show a prototype character inspired by the hiss NPCs in Remedy’s “Control”. I animated them, and did some very quick sound design to get a feel for the creepiness factor. Next, I set up a scene inspired by horror classics and placed the floating characters around for ambience. (I fully intend to make the camera angles change instantly so they don’t fly through walls….)
